Photography: Red and Pink Theme

February 5, 2019

The month of February usually revolves around a lot of pink and red, as Valentine’s Day is a huge inspiration. Personally, I take the stance of not really caring too much for Valentine’s Day. It’s not because I’m single, so much as it is the fact that regardless on if you are in a relationship or not, you should be showing your love for the ones you care about in your life all year.

However, there are a couple of good things that come from Valentine’s Day. One, being that the very next day, usually all the Valentine’s Day chocolate is 50% off. Two, I love the color scheme for Valentine’s Day. Usually, we see the usual red, pink, and white in many different shades. Or we will see the common pastels that we will see again once Easter comes around.

My Pink & Red Photos

I am very much an amateur photographer, and I have a long way to go. However, I thought I would share some of my favorite pink and red things that I have taken photos of over the past couple years.

My latest project on Pinterest is my LOVE board. The goal is to stick to my favorite pink and/or red photographs and put them together to create another great inspirational board. My favorites are Holiday boards or Home Decor boards. However, I do appreciate color themed boards, because sometimes it can be incredibly satisfying and inspirational to see a collection of the same color in one space. With that in mind, some of my other favorite inspirational boards are below, and I have them linked to their respective Pinterest creators.

What are some of your favorite Pink and Red themed boards on Pinterest? If you have color-themed boards of your own, be sure to share them below. I need some new ones to follow. Also, if you have a color-themed Instagram, I would love to see that too.

New Year Resolutions – 2019

January 1, 2019

It’s finally 2019! I say that like it took centuries to get through 2018, but actually, the year went by pretty quickly. I remember that January and February of 2019 did seem to take a long time, then March through December went by fast. I am pretty excited for what’s to come in 2019, and I hope that everyone has a great year as well.

My New Year Resolutions

  1. Take better care of my skin
  2. Write more
  3. Procrastinate less
  4. Eat healthier
  5. Try to stay more organized

I decided this year to try to stay minimal with my new year resolutions, because I didn’t want to overwhelm myself. Instead, I am going to give myself smaller goals on a more weekly or monthly basis throughout the year. I find that I get more disappointed if I have a huge list of resolutions or goals, and mess up on them.

These top five resolutions are my main goals for the year, and what I need inspiration on the most. I already started off on my list today, and spent most of my morning deep cleaning my bedroom. Over the holiday’s it tends to get messy and crowded, and I took a few hours to try to throw away things that I have been holding onto for too long. I also re-organized a lot as well, and I already feel so much better.

Above is my new 2019 planner, and I am so thrilled to use it. Nothing feels better than having a new planner to start the year off with.

What are you looking forward to this year? Got any resolutions you want to share? Let me know in the comments below.

Other than my blog, I regularly post on Instagram. Be sure to give me a follow @annamaxwell018 or @LittlebitPatchCo for updates on my daily life.

|11/9/18| Is It Too Early To Decorate For Christmas?

November 9, 2018

Is it too early to decorate for Christmas? This is a question that spirals around usually after Halloween every year, and it is one that I just don’t get. Why is everyone so obsessed with controlling Christmas decorations? If it’s November 1st and I want to put up Christmas lights, why does it bother you so much? If I put them up in April would it bother you then too? What if I left Christmas decorations up year round?

My Big Question

I think my big question is: Why do people put so much effort into hating other people for decorating early for Christmas? How does it affect you if I put Christmas decorations up in my house early? It’s not like I’m going around and demanding everyone go and start decorating for Christmas early too. It’s just what I’m doing. Honestly, people need to take a chill pill, and worry about themselves. If they don’t want to decorate until November 30th or December 1st, that’s fine. If people don’t want to decorate at all, that is fine.

My point is that Christmas is a time of year for people to come together with their families. Not everyone looks at Christmas religiously, and purely just on the fact that it is a time of year they can spend with the family they might not always get to see. Some people might start decorating early because they are excited to feel the spirit of the holiday. To feel the happiness that Christmas or being around family gives them.

Did I Decorate Already?

No, I didn’t. I have some cute Fall decorations I like to use, and I want to enjoy them for a few weeks before putting up my Christmas decorations. However, I am fully supportive of people who have already put up their Christmas decorations. Because for some people Christmas might be the one time of year that brings them true happiness and joy. It’s also really none of my damn business if they decide to decorate early or not too. Just throwing that out there 🙂

What about you?

Did you decorate for Christmas already? On another note, who is getting ready for Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday? I’m already super excited, and planning out my shopping for Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Plan With Me (PWM): Halloween – October 2018

October 29, 2018

With October coming to an end, I have finally got to use my Halloween planner sticker kit(purchased from The Glam Planner on Etsy), and I couldn’t be happier. I decided to a kind of plan with me, and share with you how I decided to layout my spread for this week. This kit and three others are from a Planner Sticker haul I did back in August. I bought four kits specifically so I could use one per month for the rest of the year. My September kit was kind of like a goodbye Summer road trip kit, and this one is obviously for Halloween.

The Full Kit – created by Glam Planner on Etsy.com

First of all, I love the color in these. I think the art is simple, but it works for this Halloween kit. I only bought an essentials kit, which means that it’s not necessarily made to cover the entire week spread like some kits are. So it leaves some white space in the final product, but I kind of liked it that way. I feel like I was able to use some more of the decor stickers on the third sheet in this spread, and I don’t always get to do that with full spreads.

Plan With Me

Honestly, I am really proud of how this turned out. There are a few stickers that I didn’t align too well with the boxes, but I had to just let it go or I would have spent hours working on this to make everything perfect. What do you all think? Would you have done this kit differently? Also, what are your favorite planner sticker shops on Etsy? I need some new inspiration. If you own your own shop, let me know as well. I’d love to help support your small business.

|10/15/18| My Weekend Fall Shopping Trip

October 15, 2018

[This post contains affiliate links. This means-at zero cost to you-I might earn a commission if you buy something through my links.]

I spent my weekend mostly relaxing, but on Saturday I ended up doing a spur of the moment Fall shopping spree. It wasn’t really supposed to be that big of a shopping trip, as I was really only planning to go out and get some groceries. However, that ended up turning into going to 6 different places, and most of my Saturday ended up disappearing.

Fashion

If you hadn’t read my blog posts about my recent purchases from the Pink Lily Boutique, I have already started building my Fall wardrobe, and you’d think I’d be done by now. Well, never underestimate my ability to lose self-control, and buy more clothes. You can never have enough sweaters, cardigans, and boots… All the clothing and shoes are from Ross, and they were all great prices. Each sweater/cardigan was below $15 each, and both boots were around $25 each.

I have bought a lot of cardigans this year, and that’s pretty unlike me. I’m usually more interested in sweaters and sweatshirts to make it through the colder season, but I guess my taste is kind of changing. I think my favorite cardigan is the rusty orange one with the stripes. It kind of appears redder on the photo, but it definitely is a real rusty orange. I also am pretty excited about my new boots.

Oh and not fashion related, but I also bought this coffee mug at Ross. It’s huge, and I am absolutely in love with it. I might be using this past Halloween, as I don’t think I have another mug like this one.

Beauty

I’ve needed some refills on my usual eyebrow products, and I of course left with many more things. I have to say that I at least bought things that I will use this time, and not things that will just waste away in my drawers.

The liquid lipstick I got from Morphe has been absolutely amazing. It doesn’t dry up my lips, and it applies smoothly. The eyeshadow palette I got was also an amazing buy, and the colors are beautiful. They have three other palettes like the one I bought with different shades, and I definitely recommend checking them out.

I am a big fan of the Stila mascara and liquid eyeliner too, and I’m trying the IT foundation out for the first time so I will let you all know how that goes. So far, I’ve noticed that it’s lightweight, and you can barely tell it is even on. However, I find my skin looks great with it on, and it has just the right amount of coverage. (Not shown, I also bought an NYX eyebrow pencil and NYX eyebrow gel.)

Bath & Bodyworks

It wouldn’t be a real last minute shopping spree without me getting some candles from Bath & Bodyworks. I recently did a Fall candle haul, and I got most of the new Fall collection that they had come out with. There were some that I wasn’t that interested in buying because of the scents. Either they smelled too similar to something I already own, or I didn’t like the scent. (I have over 50 candles, so the first reason is usually why I don’t buy some candles.)

These 5 candles were not really necessary, but I talked myself into it because I had a great coupon and they also weren’t like others I have. Except for the apple one. I have plenty of apple candles, but that’s one of my favorite scents. I also got a couple from the Winter collection. I have to say that I usually don’t like the Winter scents, but these were pretty nicely scented. They are also true to their scent when they are burning too, which is always important to me when I decide on if I want to re-purchase.

photo from my Insta story @annamaxwell018

I also bought these handsoaps, because I was running low on my stash at home. These are new scents to me, but I think I’m going to like them. They had a pretty good deal this weekend for 5 for $23, and I figured it was good to stock up on some so I don’t get tempted to go back in a couple weeks.

Finally

The rest of what I got was mostly groceries. Which was what I went out for in the first place, but I did buy a few more last minute Fall things while I was out. Pumpkins and flowers <3 The cat is none other than Littlebit (one of the two animals I named this blog after.) She was more interested in the squirrels in the tree beind me, than the pumpkins.

The pumpkins were so tiny and cute; I couldn’t help myself. It was the biggest impulse buy, but they are a cute addition to my Halloween decorations at home. As for the flowers, I did kind of have an idea of getting them for a while now, but I just haven’t got around to it. I finally did, and I’m glad. It really makes it feel like Fall now. The weather in Georgia can be kind of back and forth, and it usually doesn’t get really cold until November. So I have to use Fall decorations to at least make it feel like Fall for a while.

Overall, I enjoyed my shopping day on Saturday, and had a great weekend overall. What did you do this weekend? Have you got in the Fall spirit yet?

Pink Lily Boutique Haul – Fall 2018 (part 2)

October 10, 2018

This post is NOT sponsored by Pink Lily. This is my own opinion about my personal online shopping experience here.

I know this is a little soon from my last Pink Lily Haul, but they had a big sale the other day and I couldn’t help myself. I actually had 2 separate orders. The first one was on the sale day, and I bought four things. The second order came the next day and was kind of an impulse buy. It was a mystery bag that was only $40, and it comes with three randomly selected articles of clothing.

The First Order

I got two shirts and two cardigans. I wanted to get some things that would work for Fall, and I’m kind of obsessed with the whole red and blue colors for Fall. I have to say that the chunky green sweater is extremely comfortable, and I can tell it’s going to keep me warm when we get some colder weather. The long sleeved red shirt is a different material than I’m used to, but it is still pretty comfortable and really pretty. The two cardigans are essentially the same item, but just different colors. They also have elbow patches which add a little cute touch to each cardigan.

The Second Impulse Order

I got an email the next morning talking about the Fall mystery bag, and after reading into it, I bought it pretty quickly. It’s only $40 with a $6 fixed shipping rate. You’re getting three items four $46, when they usually would be 30+ dollars a piece. The mystery factor is the only risky thing. You never know what you are going to get. You do know that it’ll be in your size, as you select that before purchasing the bundle. You could get Summer clothes even though it’s Fall now, or you can get pants or maxi-dresses which are pretty risky if you are a bit shorter.

I was pretty pleased with my mystery purchase. The two shirts are really comfortable, and they work relatively for Fall/Winter. The pants I am not quite sure about yet. They are high waisted which is nice, but they are a bit long on the legs. I’m only 5’2 so that wasn’t unexpected that they would be a little big on me. I might be able to hem them, or I might be able to wear them if I have the right heel. We’ll see what happens.

Overall, I am very much pleased with my purchases from Pink Lily. Online shopping can be a hit or miss, so far the few experiences I’ve had at Pink Lily have been great.

|9/21/18| It’s TV Show Season and New on Instagram

September 21, 2018

I don’t know about you all, but it’s about to be TV show season. Usually, around June to mid-August, my usual TV shows aren’t on. At least the ones that I still keep up with on TV aren’t on. The shows I binge watch on Netflix don’t really count(THE OFFICE). The only shows that have been on for the past few weeks for me are Jersey Shore: Family Vacation and Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders: Making The Team. Now both of those shows are great and all, but they are more of my backup shows.

Jersey Shore

Jersey Shore back in the day was great, and even the first season of the new show was good. This current season is not that interesting to me. They wasted the first handful episodes all on the drama with Ron and his baby momma, but that literally was just the same thing each episode. They were just dragging it out. Now Angelina is back on and causes drama almost as soon as she was in the house. Honestly, I feel like they are trying to run that idea into the ground.

OH AND I MISS DEENA! She is currently pregnant with her first child, and is not on the show this season that much. She’s my favorite, but I know she’s excited for her baby. She’s happy and that’s all that matters.

My TV Show List for this Fall Season

  • Magnum P.I (New show that I want to try out)
  • NCIS
  • NCIS New Orleans
  • Grey’s Anatomy
  • How To Get Away With Murder
  • Dancing With The Stars
  • NCIS Los Angeles
  • Station 19
  • DWTS Juniors (Not sure if I’m going to like this, but I wanted to give a shot since I watch DWTS)
  • Walking Dead
  • Splitting Up Together
  • Legacies (Spin-off the The Originals, that was a spin-off of The Vampire Diaries)

That’s A LOT of TV

As you can see, I have a lot of TV shows to look forward to. From Magnum P.I down to NCIS Los Angeles those are coming on next week. Then everything else comes on mostly at the beginning of October, and a couple are going to be later on in the month. I’m going to have a lot to watch, but I’m looking forward to it. Basically, I’ve been re-watching old TV shows for the past few months. The Office, Smallville, and recently Medium. I need something new.

Trying Out A New Instagram Theme

Back in July, I tried out a new Instagram theme, and it was great. I really liked how my photos turned out. However, it is about to be Fall, and I wanted to try to get a head start on an Instagram theme that worked well with Fall. I am going to share more specifics on how I’m editing my photos in a blog post in the next couple of weeks, but these are the photos I’ve posted so far.

Photos from my Instagram @annamaxwell018

I really like how the look is so far, and after I post a few more photos I am going to make a decision on if I want to keep this cooler theme up. The edit process I am using seems to be working well with the type of photos I usually take. However, I want to try out different types of photos (like indoors and more outdoors) to see if they match up with the theme.

I also talk about that striped top in my recent blog post, and I discuss my shopping experience at Pink Lily Boutique. I also share with you my haul of clothes I got from them. Long story short: the clothes are amazing.

Overall, I am pretty excited for the next couple weeks. I have been waiting for these TV shows to come back on for what seems like forever. Station 19 is probably the one I am most excited for, as the season finale left us on a major intense cliffhanger. I am also pretty excited for this Instagram theme. If you have any tips on what I can do to improve my Instagram theme, let me know in the comments below.

|9/16/18| New Projects and Fall Fever

September 16, 2018

Sunday | September 16th, 2018

I honestly have had the most creative and inspirational month of my life. It’s been a little over a month since I did my first ever journal blog post, and I certainly didn’t plan on taking this long of a break before doing another one. I have also kind of slacked off on regular blog posts, as I have just been so incredibly focused on other projects. One of which is something I can’t wait for, but I am not quite ready to put it out on the Internet yet. I feel like I need to perfect somethings before I can share it.

One of my new Fall candles

My Adventures in Photoshop and Illustrator

The new project I am working on requires me to actively use Photoshop and Illustrator. Before this project, I assumed I was relatively knowledgeable about Photoshop. I didn’t know that much about Illustrator, but I figured it would be similar to Photoshop so I would be fine. I was so incredibly wrong.

I apparently didn’t know really anything about Photoshop, and spent several long hours teaching myself how to do what seems like very simple things. Then when I finally got around to needing to use Illustrator, it was like starting the entire learning process over again, as Illustrator is pretty different from Photoshop. Yes, there are obvious similarities, as they are both Adobe apps, but they have a lot of differences. I’m hoping to keep improving on these two over the next couple weeks, and maybe it’ll make this new project a lot easier.

My Fall Fever

Over the past couple of weeks, I have had some major Fall fever. No, I don’t mean that I have been walking around craving pumpkin spice lattes. I actually don’t like Pumpkin flavored drinks at all. I’m talking about how Summer has been an absolute mess, and I need a season change ASAP. It’s been so incredibly hot and humid where I live, and I am completely over it. Summer usually is my favorite season, but this year has been brutal. I want to be able to go outside and enjoy myself, and that’s usually what Fall is all about. That and being able to start wearing leggings every day.

Bath & Bodyworks and Pinterest

I have already gone to Bath & Bodyworks and stocked up on most of their Fall scents, and if Fall doesn’t start soon I am going to end up broke as I’m spending way too much on Fall scented candles. Another thing is that if you follow me on Pinterest, you know that I am already well into pinning for Fall and Halloween. I love the aesthetic of Fall photos, and there is so much beauty in capturing the change of seasons.

I don’t really have an excuse for my excessive pinning of Halloween pins. Most of it is Halloween themed food or drinks that I think is cute and that I want to try, Let’s be honest, probably won’t ever get around to making any of them, but it’s nice to dream.

My cat Littlebit, and I used one of the new Fall edits I’m trying out

These past couple of weeks have been incredible(despite the hot and humid temperatures.) I got to work on a lot of creative projects, and I feel so fulfilled and happy with myself. This past week, in particular, has been incredibly productive for me, and I forgot how good it feels to not procrastinate all my work until last minute. Next week I will be focusing on school, and I’m house sitting for one of my aunts. I’ll have a lot of free time on my hands, and I’m planning on spending a lot of it continuing to work on my creative projects. Hopefully, I’ll have a final product to share with you all soon.

Planner Sticker Haul – August 2018

August 14, 2018

I think it’s time to do my first planner sticker haul for this blog. I haven’t really talked about this too much on this blog, but I love to plan. My planner is my life, and I use it every day. I bought my first Erin Condren planner last year, and my second one this year. I absolutely love the planner’s layout, and it’s a perfect style for me to make lists.

I started getting into planner stickers in the middle of last year, and I realized very quickly that I was addicted to buying the pretty stickers to go into my planner. The one thing that I didn’t count on was how pricey some of the planner stickers can be. With that in mind, I slowed down on buying planner stickers and chose my purchases from then on wisely.

Planner Sticker Haul

My purchases this time are for 1 week in September, October, November, and December. I purchased from a shop on etsy.com called The Glam Planner. This particular shop isn’t always open, as it kind of just depends on if the shop owner is on vacation or if they have too many orders. But if you like planner stickers, I definitely recommend going to check out this shop.

Festival Stickers – September 2018

This particular kit was initially for Coachella, but I like the layout and look of the whole kit and decided to get it for my September kit. It’s kind of like saying get all the Summer fun in while you can because it’s about to be Fall and cold weather is coming.

Halloween Kit – October 2018

I really liked the bright colors on this kit, and thought it was perfect for Halloween. Unlike the usually full kits, I got this kit as an essentials kit. So there will be some white space on my spread for the week of Halloween, but I think there is so much going on in these full boxes it won’t matter.

Harry Potter Hogwarts – November 2018

I really am excited about this kit. Instead of getting a traditional Thanksgiving or Black Friday themed kit, I chose Harry Potter for November. I don’t know why, but it seemed to fit in with the whole fall theme.

Furbaby Christmas – December 2018

This is another kit that isn’t a full covered spread, and only has the essentials. I loved the animals in this kit and thought the whole Christmas theme wasn’t overdone. I’m super excited to end the year with this kit.

Those are the four kits I purchased for the next four months. I do plan on buying more, probably around Black Friday/Cyber Monday, but for right now these four kits are on my to-do list. Well, my planner to-do list. I have plans to put the spread in for September around the middle of the month, but that could change. I do plan on posting a new blog post with my finished spread whenever I do get it done.

Are you into planner stickers? What are your favorite shops on Etsy? And, if you own your own Etsy shop, let me know, so I can check out your products. Check me out on Instagram, where you might see a sneak peek of my planner spreads.

Food

Pink Lemonade Cupcakes

July 25, 2018

I am not really someone who would say they are a great cook. For the longest time, the only thing I could cook was breakfast foods, and honestly, it isn’t that hard to scramble some eggs or make a pancake. However, it did take me quite a while to master the art of not making the pancake doughy in the middle or burnt to a crisp on the outside.

Over the past four years since I graduated high school, I have been slowly working on expanding my cooking skills, and it has been a slow process. As of now, I can happily say I can cook more than just breakfast foods.

Pink Lemonade Cupcakes

The one thing I would like to improve on is baking. I am guilty of making salty cookies, failing at creative rice crispy treat making, or burning the edges to brownies. With the words ‘simple’ and ‘easy’ in mind, I have decided to make lemon cupcakes with vanilla buttercream frosting. To stay with a pink lemonade theme, I am going to use pink and yellow food dye to create the look.

Lemon Cupcake Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 Cup unsalted butter (soften to room temperature)
  • 1 Cup granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs(large)
  • 1 & 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 & 1/2 cups of all purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 lemons (zest and juice from both lemons)

Directions:

  • Preheat oven to 350 F
  • Mix by hand or use a mixer, the butter and sugar until creamed.
  • Add eggs and vanilla, then continue to mix until everything is mixed together (wet ingredients)
  • In a separate bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder, and salt. (dry ingredients)
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients (expect the batter to be thick)
  • Lastly, add the milk, lemon juice and zest until it is well combined with batter. Don’t over mix!
  • Line a 12 cupcake pan with liners, then add the batter about 2/3 of the way in each cupcake liner
  • Bake for 18 minutes, check with a toothpick to see if the middle is cooked through. Add an extra 2 minutes if needed.

I found that the amount of lemon juice you add to the batter can vary from 1 to 2 lemons. 2 lemons worth of lemon juice for me added a strong lemon flavor to the batter, and while I do like lemon flavor I wouldn’t recommend doing a lemon flavored icing on top as it might make the lemon too overpowering.

Vanilla Butter Cream Icing

*NOTE: Wait until cupcakes are cooled before beginning to apply icing*

Ingredients:

  • 1 Cup unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
  • 4 or 4 1/2 cups of powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1 or 2 teaspoons vanilla extract(this depends on how much vanilla you want in your, you can taste test as you are making the icing to determine how much you would like)

Directions:

  • Mix by hand or mixer the butter until creamy
  • Add 3 1/2 or 4 cups of your powdered sugar(leaving about a 1/2 cup on the side)
  • Add the heavy whipping cream and vanilla extract
  • Mix together well, then add the remaining 1/2 cup of powdered sugar

Troubleshooting: If you find your icing to be too liquidy, you can add a tablespoon more of powdered sugar. If it is too thick, you can add a tablespoon more of heavy whipping cream. If frosting is too sweet, add a little salt(1/4 of a teaspoon to start off with)

When I was adding dye to my cupcakes to make them pink or yellow, I reminded myself that a little goes a long way. I found pink and yellow food dye at my local grocery store, and I started off with a few drops in each bowl. It didn’t take more than 5 or 6 to each get the right look for the type of dye that I used.

I also added white pearl looking sprinkles to my cupcakes, but you could take a more creative direction and add thin lemon slices or lemon candies to the top.

Yes, my cupcake decorating could always use some improvement, but I think I did a good job on my first attempt. The one thing I wished I did differently is keep a better eye on the time the actual cupcakes were in the oven. They seemed to have baked a minute or two longer than they should have, but the overall cupcake was tasty. I hope you all enjoyed this recipe post.
